Barrel Racing
The cloverleaf — speed, tight turns, and clean runs. Sami runs barrels on Skippy.
Follow Sami's first California high school rodeo season — barrels and poles on Skippy, goat tying on Tecova — chasing points toward District Finals and a State Finals bid.
The season at a glance
Samantha, 15, is competing in the California High School Rodeo Association's District 8 — which covers Riverside, Orange, Imperial, San Diego, Los Angeles, and San Bernardino counties. She'll contest three events all season long, earning points at every district rodeo.
Her events
The cloverleaf — speed, tight turns, and clean runs. Sami runs barrels on Skippy.
Six poles, a serpentine down and back — precision at full speed. Sami runs poles on Skippy.
Dismount, flank, and tie against the clock. Sami ties goats on Tecova — she finished her first CJRA season 13th in the event, her first year tying.
How it works
District 8 hosts a series of rodeos through the season. Contestants earn points in each event at every rodeo, and the season points decide the district standings. The top of the standings at District Finals qualify for the CHSRA State Finals — the season's biggest stage.
The road here
Before her first California high school rodeo season opens this October, Sami's 2026 has already been about momentum. She set a barrel racing personal best of 16.212 on Skippy at Riverside Rancheros on August 25, 2026. On Tecova she closed her first CJRA season 13th in the goat tying standings — her first year in the event — at the final event before Finals in Norco. The foundation is laid; now the district season begins.

September 27, 2026 — Banning
Back-to-back at Banning — a junior rodeo on Saturday and her very first high school rodeo on Sunday. Warm-up photos from day two: Sami with the District 8 contestants under the CHSRA "Great 8" banner, ready to start the season.

October 17, 2026 — Norco
Sami's CJRA weekend in Norco opened with warm-up and pole bending on Skippy — a little bobble on the last pole, gathered right back up for a solid, clean finish. Goat tying and barrels still to come this weekend.

October 18, 2026 — Norco
Day two of the CJRA Junior Rodeo in Norco — the final event of the season before Finals. Sami warmed up on Skippy in the morning before her first run, then put down a clean pole run she was happy with, and closed out her first CJRA season.
